How to get computers to 'see' cells

When you look at a cell under the microscope, its usually pretty easy to see where the cell membrane is. But computers have a really hard time doing this. In this paper with engineering and biochemistry students, we talk about how we have used computer training algorithms to create an efficient workflow.
